Dion Cools, who plays for Belgian First Division club Zulte Waregem, revealed in an interview that it was HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor that convince the 25-year-old to play for Malaysia.
Speaking to Belgium-based Sport/Voetbalmagazine, Cools said: “They wanted me to join the national team since I was 18. But I played with Belgium until U-21 and hoped for a breakthrough with the Red Devils. But it didn’t come. A year later I chose Malaysia. A phone call from the Crown Prince of Johor, convinced me.”
