Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) have scouts all over the country to identify talents for the JDT Academy from a young age. There are no open trials.
These scouts are constantly present at various age-group competitions throughout Malaysia — be it official competitions organised by the Education Ministry and FA of Malaysia (FAM) or privately organised tournaments. The talent spotters scout for primary school, secondary school and college students in hope of getting the best talents to the JDT Academy. Scouts are also present at some friendly matches.
JDT scouts also look out for unpolished gems that have not broken into the first team because some have the potential to be late bloomers. For example 2021 Most Valuable Player Arif Aiman Hanapi and Ramadhan Sailfullah were spotted several years ago despite them struggling to make the elite squad at NFDP, but their careers progressed by multiple folds since joining the JDT Academy and later progressing to the senior team.
