Johor Darul Ta’zim FC’s 2-0 win over Guangzhou FC in the AFC Champions League groupstage gained Malaysia another three points in the AFC Club Competition Ranking. The win moved Malaysia up to 14th in the continent.
Malaysia remain in 7th in East Asia but are now less than a point behind Vietnam and China, thus closer to having more Malaysian clubs in AFC competitions in 2024.
JDT have contributed 18 of the 18.45 points earned by Malaysia since 2019. Points collected by JDT in previous years have almost singled-handedly guaranteed 1 AFC Champions League direct entry and 2 AFC Cup direct entry for Malaysia in 2022 and 2023.
Prior to JDT’s exploits in Asia, Malaysia only received one ACL Playoff slot, a direct entry to the AFC Cup group stage and one AFC Cup playoff slot. The performance of Malaysian clubs in the 2022 AFC Champions League and AFC Cup will determine the number of clubs that compete in Asia in 2024. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.
