HRH Major General Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Crown Prince of Johor and Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) owner, officiated the new Zeon Zoysia pitch at the National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur Sports City in Bukit Jalil today. Also present was Youth and Sports Minister YB Hannah Yeoh.
His Royal Highness sponsored the football pitch at the national stadium as a gift to Malaysian football following years of quality woes faced by the stadium operators.
Prior to the sponsorship, HRH Tunku Ismail has previously lent the National Stadium a canvas from JDT’s Larkin Stadium to cover and protect the Bukit Jalil field from heavy downpours ahead of key Harimau Malaya matches and Cup finals. HRH Crown Prince of Johor also consented for national team to utlise the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium and JDT Training Centre, which are the best football facilities in the region.
His Royal Highness has always emphasised the need for quality football pitches and facilities in order to elevate Malaysian football, and that are among the foundations to JDT’s rise to become Southeast Asia’s leading football club. HRH Tunku Ismail also urged all football stadiums in the country to place the same importance in order to uplift standards nationwide.
The National Stadium’s new zeon zoysia grass is also used at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, which is deemed to have had the best field in the country since the iconic stadium opened in 2020.
HRH Crown Prince of Johor previously inspected the condition of the previous field at Bukit Jalil in 2022 and attended the ground breaking ceremony of the new zeon zoysia pitch in March 2023. The new pitch is set to be used for the first time when Malaysia take on India in the Merdeka Tournament tomorrow. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.
