We are looking forward to the 2021 AFC Champions League and have named a squad taking into consideration injuries, strengths in each department and the foreign player quota.
We have registered Shane Lowry to beef up the defence. Shahrul Saad is still injured and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
Gonzalo Cabrera was unfortunately omitted because of the four foreign player quota and we wanted to strengthen the defence. We picked Lowry as our Asian player instead of Cabrera because he can support Mauricio Dos Santos at the back.
We also have many other good options on the flanks such as Safawi Rasid, Arif Aiman Hanapi, Mohamadou Sumareh, Akhyar Rashid and Ramadhan Saifullah. Leandro Velazquez was picked in the middle because we need a strong midfield.
Syafiq Ahmad’s performance in the national team and Ahmad Hazwan Bakri’s showing in training have been encouraging, and coupled with the inclusion of Guilherme de Paula will provide good back-up for Bergson da Silva up front.
We have also included several JDT II youngsters such as Feroz Baharudin, Chia Ruo Han and Firdaus Ramli because of their promising display in training and being in the squad will provide them valuable experience.
